UMOJA SARL

Biogas · Clean cooking · Agroecology · Smart Resilience

Turning organic waste into useful energy and fertiliser.

From Goma, UMOJA assesses, builds and maintains biodigesters that produce biogas and recoverable digestate for households, businesses and institutions across the Kivu region.

  • 28 installations completed
  • 6 areas served
  • First installation in 2012

From waste to use

Five stages from organic waste to usable gas.

Collection, fermentation, purification, storage and use form one technical chain adapted to each site.

Field notebook

Build, connect, test: the work behind every installation.

Groundworks, masonry, connections, training and commissioning shape the daily work of UMOJA teams.

UMOJA Smart Resilience

Observe the biodigester so teams can respond faster.

MotoBox™ collects technical measurements at the site. BioCloud™ is designed to centralise them, flag anomalies and prepare UMOJA’s technical response.

Functional prototype · Goma pilot

MotoBox™

On the current pilot, the ESP32 box monitors pH and pressure through a Wi-Fi connection.

BioCloud™

The interface under development organises site supervision, alerts and maintenance follow-up.

Under development

PAYG Mobile Money

The planned model combines a 50% deposit, monthly Mobile Money payments and a future control valve on the gas outlet.

Impact

Regional portfolio and results from the UMOJA site in Goma.

The 70 tonnes recovered in 2024 and the estimated 160+ kg/day requirement apply only to the biodigesters at UMOJA’s ecological mini-bakery site in Goma. The 28 recorded projects cover the full 2012–2026 portfolio.
